L3 Technologies, Inc., Brashear (L3 Brashear) is dedicated to meeting the challenges of and applications for the commercial and defense markets. Our ability to apply cutting edge technology with advanced engineering design allows us to answer mission crucial requirements. The company provides space, airborne, ground-based and naval systems where a combination of high precision, high resolution imagery, and optimized size, weight and stabilization are needed for optimal performance. L3 Brashear products include a full range of precision polished optics, large diameter telescopes, integrated optical sights, stabilized platforms, beam directors and laser communications terminals, test range products, range support services and Research & Development services.

L3 Brashear’s facilities are dedicated to the production of state-of-the-art optical systems and subsystems. L3 Brashear has 85,000-square-foot of manufacturing space. The assembly operations are supported by a wide array of mechanical, optical, and electronic test and measuring instruments as well as specialized areas devoted to optical testing. For the precision shaping and polishing of large optical elements, L3 Brashear utilizes a 12,000-square-foot vibration-free, environmentally stable former limestone mine in Western Pennsylvania. The facility has the capability to polish optics to >9m in diameter and includes two vertical shafts, a 4m and 9m, for optic testing.

Located in Pittsburgh PA, L3 Brashear employs scientists, engineers, opticians and support staff. Producing the quality required in today’s precision optical systems is an extremely complex task. L3 Brashear meets the demand with optical components with products such as:

  • Reflective and refractive optics to >4m
  • Surface accuracy of  < 10 nano-meter rms, with exceptional slope control
  • Lightweight-space qualified mirrors >90% lightweighted
  • Specialty mirrors including high-energy laser and silicon carbide
  • Refractive components utilizing specialty glass and IR materials

We set the standard of performance by combining sophisticated design, analysis and fabrication tools. Propriety software was developed specifically to analyze, create and test unique high-performance optical systems and components.
