Thorlabs Inc.
Thorlabs, a vertically integrated photonics products manufacturer, was founded in 1989 to serve the laser and electro-optics research market. As that market has spawned a multitude of technical innovations, Thorlabs has extended its core competencies in an effort to play an ever increasing role serving the Photonics Industry at the research end, as well as the industrial, life science, medical, and defense segments.
Lenses
Thorlabs’ extensive line of lenses includes spherical, achromatic, aspheric, and cylindrical lenses, both with and without anti-reflection coatings deposited on the surfaces. N-BK7, UV fused silica, calcium fluoride, magnesium fluoride, zinc selenide, germanium, and silicon substrates, among others, are available. In addition, Thorlabs also offers Axicons and Air-Spaced Doublets.
Our in-house production capabilities allow us to offer a wide variety of custom CNC-polished and MRF-polished aspheric lenses. The diameter, focal length, conjugate ratio, substrate material, and coating of these optics can all be customized to meet the unique performance requirements of a given application. In addition, custom optics can be ordered with tighter tolerances and improved specifications vis-à-vis our stock offerings. Our vertically integrated manufacturing process allows us to fulfill requests for custom optics for both OEM requests and individual low-quantity orders.
Aspheric Lenses: Molded & Precision Polished
Thorlabs offers molded, CNC-polished, and MRF-polished aspheric lenses, both with and without AR coatings. The surface of an aspheric lens is designed to eliminate spherical aberration. Compared to their molded aspheric lens counterparts, CNC-polished aspheric lenses are available in larger sizes, provide better surface quality, and maintain the M squared values of the input beam better. MRF-polished aspheric lenses provide true diffraction-limited spot sizes and the lowest wavefront error. We also offer acylindrical lenses, which provide the advantages of aspheres in one-dimensional focusing applications.
